Grateful Little Victories

When every day is a struggle with illness, you learn to be grateful for the little victories.

Not that anything was open

I got out of the house, however briefly, on my own initiative.

The best laid plans of mice and men

I throttled back my plans for the day when my asthma reared its head.

Hibachi, with a playful (and clumsy) chef

Had an honest-to-god date night.

Now to figure out track layers

Worked out how to record myself singing with Audition- now to work up the COURAGE to do so.

Finished wedding website (basically), just a little behind schedule.

Well, that's one way to deal with it

Finding out that premedicating with 1mg of Ativan does WONDERS for stopping dystonia during IVIG treatments.

Not painless, but at least quick

Relatively easy tooth extraction, followed by prescriptions for GOOD meds.

Stuff and Things

Household stuff, wedding stuff, Coursera stuff - I did stuff that needed doing.

Disney songs in Spanish

I watched Pocahontas in Spanish and found I still understood nearly all of it.

Gardening ...in a video game

I completed at least ONE project I had planned, even if it WAS in Terraria.

Out to lunch, just because

Going to lunch with a friend and chatting for 2 hours - spur of the moment, just because I was nearby.

3/19 - What is this feeling?

Realizing that I feel better than I have in 2-3 months.

3/18 - Cold day and soup

Made a big pot of veggie soup - an excellent use of a frigid day.

It was a just a poem before this

Wrote a verse & chorus for songwriting class - finally happy with something as a song!

I was supposed to be writing a song tonight

Got my hands on a new filk album that I'd been eagerly waiting on. (Julia Ecklar - Horsetamer)

Beware the Ides of March

Made it through the Ides of March without being stabbed 23 times by a friend! Or, more seriously, realized why I've never liked any songs I wrote - this songwriting class is awesome!

Steps toward acceptance

(Above, Pi to 40 decimal places. Below, "Happy Pi Day!") Decided that it is OK if I fall behind on this blog at times, as long as I'm still noting my victories.

Digest post - March 10-13

I figured out a bathing method that neither required standing in the shower nor sitting down in the tub.

Successfully left not only my bed but also the house for the first time in days.

Sat up at the computer for a couple hours, even playing some Aion.

FINALLY did the stock-the-cupboards shopping trip I've been delaying for weeks.

Digest post - March 6-9

Had cake & long conversations with the little sister.

Fell in love with another Coursera class - this one on songwriting.

I did something VERY unwise and while I know I'll pay for it, it still felt good.

I couldn't get out of bed, but having pillows, blankets, and a laptop meant I could finally watch X-Men: First Class.

Digest post - March 1-5

Speaking up, even if through tears, when my pain control was entirely inadequate.

Staying in bed all day, because horizontal meant less pain than vertical.

Being able to transition to a lesser pain medication for at least part of the day.

Ordered beautiful flowers for the wedding, and a supremely geeky cake. :D (FFXI-themed!)

Took part in a chat hangout about changing hiring practices to be more equitable to various marginalized groups.

Digest post - end of February

Figuring out a work-around with another bit of hardware when a piece of your tech breaks beyond repair.

Choosing to do what I needed to do, rather than push myself to do what I wanted.

Deciding to replace broken bits instead of getting an unneeded toy.

Writing a Wheel of Time fanfic request that I've been promising for months.
